The Mustangs

Since 2002 when we bought our farm, we talked about getting horses. We finally decided to stop talking about it and just go for it, so we started off leasing two mustangs (Sky & Gypsy) in March 2009. It was always a dream of mine to own a mustang, but I never thought it would happen, since I figured it would be more practical to get a fully trained domestic horse instead of trying to train a wild mustang. But as luck would have it, the horse stable across town had two gentled mustangs who were available to lease. We adopted them on July 16, 2009, and on August 16, 2009,  Sky & Gypsy came to live here at the farm.

Gypsy (named "Jess" on her BLM certificate), was born in 1996 into the Callaghan herd in central Nevada (NV604). She was adopted and came to New Hampshire in 2001.

She's had some groundwork, but hasn't been under saddle, so we are currently working with her. She's a very smart little mare and she is learning very quickly and we are sure that she will be a wonderful saddle horse with some time and patience.

Skylar (aka "Twilight Sky" - named "Twilight" on his BLM certificate) was born in July 1995 in the Nevada Wild Horse Range (NV524), located in Nye County, Nevada. He was captured on January 12, 1996 and adopted and came originally to Maine in 1997.

Sky has been trained under saddle, and has some kinks to work out, but is a smart, mellow and fun to ride gelding. He knows a few tricks, like "kiss", "hug", "shake", and "bow", and is quick to perform for a treat (he's a very food motivated guy, but he's an attention hog, too!)

The Minis

We added two adorable Class B mini horses to our farm in October. They are sweet and the kids love them. Our two youngest are still small enough to ride them comfortably, and we are training them in harness so everyone can enjoy them for years to come as cart horses.

Nutmeg is a 1998 registered solid sorrel Class B.  (34"). She is a former broodmare. She's very sweet and is great on the lunge line. She will make an excellent driving mini.

Trigger is a 2006 light palomino blanket appaloosa gelding. He is a 35" Class B, and loves attention and treats. He has an underbite, so he can't be registered, but it doesn't slow him down or take away from his cuteness! We are training him with a bitless bridle for driving due to his underbite.
